Attending the ETSY Success Sydney 2012

On June 2, 2012, I am attending the ETSY Success Sydney, I won my ticket to attend through BrisStyle (a not for profit, which is a community of 220+ talented Artists from Brisbane/Gold Coast/ Northern NSW artists, crafters and designers). Find the competition entry here: BrisStyle Give-away ETSY Success

So on Saturday morning, very, very early, I will be flying to Sydney from the Gold Coast, the take a train from the airport to the closest train station and walk up to the Art Museum for the day :)

I am so excited to be attending this ETSY international event and meeting other Australian Etsy shop owners, all there to learn to achieve further success from their ETSY stores.

Since I decided to change my hobby into a business January 1, 2012; my shop sales increased month on month.
Making this decision I I began to relist 5- 10 listings every day, that were receiving views and sales; then I would make new designed items every 2-4 weeks, finally I added listings with combinations of items from my store with a slight discount and this took off a bit slow on sales at the beginning, but very popular choices.

Then I introduced discounts on multiple items in one order as follows:
3-5 items the purchaser would receive 10% discount;
6-10 items, would entitle the purchaser to a 15% discount;
anything more than 10, the discount would be 20%..

The combination of the above has helped the purchaser and myself :) The purchaser receives the quality items they require for a discount and I receive a sale !

Currently my etsy stores makes averages 2 sales a day within a day, which I feel is really good :) Compared to 1-2 per month before this..  Perhaps one day I will be featured in their Quit your Day Job blog! LOL

For now, I am happy to be working full-time as a programmer in Education (a rewarding job) and then do this etsy shop as side business (just as satisfying!). My next entry would probably be of the Sydney ETSY success event, so see you then..

Click here for the program, if you are in Sydney on the day and wish to attend, hope to meet you there.

At Madam Sparrow Markets in Chirn Park on the Gold Coast, May 25

Yesterday, I was at the Madam Sparrow Markets in Chirn Park on the Gold Coast. It was a good day, the sun came out for the day, so people came out and we all had a some sales :) The ladies who bought from me, mostly bought the jewelry as gifts and were impressed that I provided the just purchased jewelry in an organza bag, ready for gift giving ... I don't like my handmade jewelry to leave the table in just a small plastic bag, each piece is special and have to be treated as such.

At this market yesterday, I had my new smaller table (1.5m), in order to transport and set up everything more easily, instead of dragging my husband and daughter out so very early in the morning and trying to pack in a big 1.8m table and the rest of the stuff in my car, travel with 2 cars, only for them to travel the 30 min back home and do the trip again the afternoon! So now I am able to pack out and setup alone in the mornings and they help me pack up the afternoon and we go for a late lunch out together!!!!

For the few nights before I tried various layouts on this new table, still wanting to use the black frames that I made for my jewelry display for this market, as I demonstrated on how to make a jewelry display for my market in November 2011... So I hope this table layout looked fine ! The only issue was I couldn't fit my straw bargain bowel for $5 earrings, bracelets and necklaces, but I will try another layout next time...

The jewelry I sell at the market is different to the jewelry I sell in my very busy etsy store RBJohnson Designs, so I had to open a new Etsy Store, Nuri Jewelry to sell my 'market' everyday range, which is still in its very infancy stages of it's online presence.

The word Nuri for the new shop, was made up by my daughter Nuhaa and is derived from the first 2 letters my daughter and my names (Nuhaa and Rishka)! She was very excited about this and so I just had to do it :)

Popular things that were bought were at the markets yesterday were:

A few pairs of Silver Leaf Earrings

The new Droplet Necklace in Silver

Rose Necklace - Mostly as Mother's Day gifts :)

And of course the ever popular Bird and Branch Leaf Lariat

So just to end off, I had a great time at the market yesterday and met a few new people and made new friends, the market has grown and is now spilling into the lane, where I stood yesterday.. I may not be able to make the next market, as I may attend the ETSY Sydney Success Symposium, but I will certainly be coming back to Madam Sparrow's Market later in the year...
